Meet our Horses

We always say that we are an equal opportunity employer here at Saddle Up as we have over NINE equine breeds in our barn in all shapes and sizes to accommodate all shapes, sizes and experience levels of riders. As such, we are one of the only equine businesses in Southern California that has no weight restrictions. Did you know that most horses are more than capable of carrying 20% of their body weight? Stronger, well conditioned horses can carry even more. With our largest horse weighing in at 1950 pounds, we can take riders upwards of 400 pounds! Some of our horses are either short, weigh less than 1000 pounds or may be older and as such will be assigned smaller riders. You can always request a different horse if you don't like yours, but please do not take offense as to the horse we assign you. We do our best to match you not only with the appropriate sized horse, but one that is suitable for your experience level and personality! We think you'll love our horses just as much as we do!!!

Apollo and Achilles

Hey, Y'all! We are Apollo and Achilles, the Saddle Up Percheron Team. Like every good team, we have brains and brawn! The brains is our leader, Apollo, who is 10 years old. Achilles is our muscle (he's slightly bigger) and is 8 years old. We are the biggest horses on the ranch standing at 17.2 hands and weighing over 1850 pounds! But we are gentle giants and will give you a fun ride in our big wagon or on our broad backs while our drivers/guides tell you all about the Valley that we call home. If you feel like tipping, don't forget to tip us with treats! Just ask your tour guides for our special treats (they keep them in the front of the wagon...they think we don't see them put them in there...but we do!). Your guides will help you tell us apart!

Hi! I am one of the most beautiful horses on the riding string and get lots of attention and catcalls...I'll get you noticed. I love being groomed and eating treats. I sound like a girl when I neigh! I am very smooth and take big long steps. Intermediate females or confident beginner males like riding me best! I'll pose great if you want a picture with me!

Howdy! I am a tall, lean walking machine. Even though I'm the oldest horse on the string, I'm one of the most energetic and entertaining. I have a proud headset and really strut. I'll be up in the front next to the lead guide where all the action is. I'm a very smooth ride and have a walking horse gait that will make you comfortable while making you feel like you are the star in a parade. Don't I have a rather striking face?

Hey y'all! I'm a real pal and love to be loved on. Many people mistakenly think I am old because I am grey in color. My color and skin tone are part of what makes me unique as you can see my beautiful freckles and markings through my white hair. I am a sweet horse and can be friends with anyone. In fact, my best friend is the mascot, Billy the Angora Goat. He and I are bunk mates!

Good day to you! My name means "Dark Beauty" in Arabic. Even though I'm a big, strong horse, I'm a sweet girl. I just like to ease down the trail at a nice pleasurable pace so that you can enjoy the nice Southern California weather and the beautiful Temecula Wine Country. When heads turn our way when we walk by...they are most likely looking at me;) You'll enjoy my easy going, down to earth demeanor. Hope to take you for a ride soon.

Howdy, y'all! Even though I am a tall boy, I take graceful tiny steps and will most likely be in the back of the pack where its nice easy and slow. That doesn't mean that I'm a deadhead as I have a lot of personality. I like to vine taste while you wine taste and will practically eat anything which is why my nickname is Chewbacca. But I won't eat you though! No teeth, just kisses! I am a very hairy guy as well and have lots of funny tufts sticking out everywhere.

Why hello there. My given name is Stormy Weather, but I'm referenced as "Mare" because people would get me confused with some of the geldings that have a similar color and markings to me. I used to be an endurance race horse and competed 25 and 50 miles. So I'm well accustomed to the trail and anyone can ride me. These days I'll go as slow as you want to on the beginner rides, but I'll take you on our Mountain Adventure Tour in a nice trot and canter as well. Due to my long pasterns I am an extremely smooth horse to ride.
